About
Telvas AM 40/5 is a combination medication containing Telmisartan and Amlodipine. Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a substance in the body that narrows blood vessels, thereby relaxing blood vessels and lowering blood pressure. Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (CCB) that relaxes blood vessels by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle cells. This dual mechanism of action provides comprehensive blood pressure control, making it highly effective in managing essential hypertension, especially in patients who do not achieve adequate control with monotherapy. The combination helps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke and heart attack by maintaining stable blood pressure levels throughout the day.
