About
Teravir 300mg Tablet contains the active ingredient Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate, an antiretroviral (or antiviral) medication used to treat HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and HBV (Hepatitis B Virus) infections. It belongs to a class of drugs known as nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), which work by blocking the enzymes—HIV reverse transcriptase and hepatitis B DNA polymerase—that are essential for viral replication. For HIV treatment, Teravir is always used in combination with other antiretroviral drugs. It is intended for use in adults and adolescents aged 12 to 18 years. In adolescents, it is typically prescribed when other HIV medications are no longer effective due to resistance or have caused significant side effects. The safety of this medicine in patients over 65 years of age has not been established.
You should not take Teravir 300mg if you are allergic to Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate or any of its components. During treatment, your doctor may regularly monitor blood counts, bone mineral density, and liver and kidney function to avoid serious complications. Be sure to inform your doctor if you have a history of heart failure, pancreatitis, bone conditions such as osteonecrosis (bone tissue death), fractures, or liver or kidney disorders, including chronic hepatitis B or C.
This medication is not recommended for adolescents with existing kidney issues. If you are lactose intolerant, inform your doctor before starting treatment. Also, let your doctor know if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or suspect you might be. Breastfeeding is not advised, as there is a risk of transmitting HIV to the infant. Patients should use effective contraception to prevent the spread of HIV.
