About
TETAN 20MG contains Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), which is primarily used for the treatment of essential hypertension. Telmisartan works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to its AT1 receptors located in various tissues, including vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal glands. Angiotensin II is a potent vasoconstrictor and stimulates aldosterone secretion, both of which contribute to increased blood pressure. By blocking these effects, Telmisartan causes vasodilation, reduces sodium and water retention, and ultimately lowers blood pressure. This mechanism helps to relax blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily.
Beyond its antihypertensive effects, Telmisartan has demonstrated benefits in reducing cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in patients at high risk, such as those with a history of cardiovascular disease, stroke, or diabetes with end-organ damage. It is a long-acting ARB, providing sustained blood pressure control over a 24-hour period, which contributes to its effectiveness in preventing cardiovascular events. It is generally well-tolerated and can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.
