About

Thailogem 100mg Capsule contains gemfibrozil, a fibric acid derivative used to treat dyslipidemia. It primarily works by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPAR-alpha), which leads to several beneficial changes in lipid metabolism. These include increased lipoprotein lipase activity, resulting in enhanced catabolism of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins, and reduced hepatic synthesis of very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) cholesterol. Gemfibrozil effectively lowers elevated triglyceride levels and can increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, thereby reducing the risk of pancreatitis and cardiovascular events in specific patient populations with mixed dyslipidemia, particularly those with severe hypertriglyceridemia who are at risk for pancreatitis.

Uses

  • Treatment of severe hypertriglyceridemia.
  • Reduction of risk of coronary heart disease in specific patients.
  • Management of mixed dyslipidemia.
  • Increasing HDL cholesterol levels.

Directions For Use

Take orally, usually twice daily, 30 minutes before morning and evening meals.

Benefits

  • Significantly lowers triglyceride levels.
  • Increases beneficial HDL cholesterol.
  • Reduces risk of pancreatitis.
  • May reduce cardiovascular event risk.
  • Well-established lipid-modifying agent.
  • Oral administration.

Side Effects

  • Abdominal pain.
  • Dyspepsia.
  • Diarrhea.

Safety Measures

  • Alcohol - Avoid excessive alcohol consumption, as it can increase triglyceride levels and potentially exacerbate liver toxicity associated with gemfibrozil.
  • Pregnancy - Not recommended during pregnancy. Animal studies show adverse effects, and human data are insufficient. Use only if potential benefits outweigh risks.
  • Breastfeeding - Not recommended. It is unknown if gemfibrozil is excreted in human milk. Due to potential for serious adverse reactions in infants, breastfeeding should be discontinued.
  • Liver - Contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic dysfunction. Use with caution in mild to moderate impairment, with regular monitoring of liver function tests.
  • Kidney - Contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment. Use with caution and dose reduction in moderate impairment, with close monitoring of renal function.
  • Lung - No specific contraindications or precautions related to lung conditions.
