About

Unuric 40mg Tablet belongs to the class of medicines called xanthine oxidase inhibitors and contains the active ingredient febuxostat. It is primarily used to treat gout, a type of arthritis caused by excessive accumulation of uric acid in the body. Gout can lead to pain, tenderness, swelling, and restricted movement in affected joints such as the big toe, ears, heels, knees, wrists, and fingers. This medication is also prescribed to prevent and treat high uric acid levels that may develop when starting chemotherapy for blood cancers.

By lowering uric acid levels, Unuric 40mg Tablet also helps prevent tumour lysis syndrome (TLS)—a medical emergency that may occur in patients with certain cancers, especially blood cancers like leukaemia and lymphoma, during chemotherapy. TLS happens when cancer cells break down rapidly, releasing large amounts of uric acid, potassium, and phosphate into the bloodstream. During treatment, your doctor may monitor your white blood cell count, platelet count, blood sugar, electrolytes, and kidney function to prevent serious complications. Since this medicine may increase the risk of heart problems, regular cardiac monitoring may be necessary.

Before starting treatment, inform your doctor if you have liver problems, heart failure, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure. Report any signs of hypersensitivity reactions, such as itchy skin or rashes, immediately. This tablet contains lactose as an inactive ingredient, which may cause bloating and abdominal discomfort in people with lactose intolerance. If you are lactose intolerant, inform your doctor before starting therapy.
