About

VALCIVIR 500 TABS contain Valacyclovir, an antiviral drug that is a prodrug of acyclovir. It is rapidly converted to acyclovir in the body, which then inhibits viral DNA synthesis and replication. Acyclovir works by being phosphorylated to its active triphosphate form, which then competes with deoxyguanosine triphosphate for incorporation into viral DNA by viral DNA polymerase. This leads to chain termination and inhibition of viral replication. Valacyclovir is particularly effective against herpes simplex virus (HSV), varicella-zoster virus (VZV), and cytomegalovirus (CMV). Its improved bioavailability compared to acyclovir allows for less frequent dosing, enhancing patient compliance and therapeutic efficacy in managing various herpesvirus infections, including cold sores, genital herpes, and shingles.
