About

Veltam 0.4mg, containing Tamsulosin hydrochloride, is an alpha-1A adrenergic receptor antagonist primarily used to treat the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). BPH is a common condition in older men where the prostate gland enlarges, leading to urinary symptoms such as hesitancy, weak stream, urgency, and frequent urination. Tamsulosin works by selectively blocking alpha-1A receptors located in the smooth muscle of the prostate and bladder neck. This blockade causes relaxation of these muscles, reducing the obstruction to urine flow and improving urinary symptoms without significantly affecting blood pressure in most patients. It does not reduce the size of the prostate but effectively alleviates the bothersome urinary symptoms associated with BPH, thereby improving the patient's quality of life. The medication is typically taken once daily.
