About
ADILIP 135 TAB contains Fenofibrate, a medication belonging to the fibric acid derivative class. Fenofibrate primarily works by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPAR-alpha), a nuclear receptor that regulates lipid metabolism. Activation of PPAR-alpha leads to several beneficial changes in lipid profiles, most notably a significant reduction in elevated triglyceride levels and an increase in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), often referred to as 'good cholesterol'.
Fenofibrate achieves its effects by increasing the synthesis of lipoprotein lipase, an enzyme that breaks down triglyceride-rich lipoproteins, and by reducing the production of apolipoprotein C-III, an inhibitor of lipoprotein lipase. It also promotes the synthesis of apolipoprotein A-I and A-II, which are components of HDL-C. While its primary role is in managing hypertriglyceridemia, Fenofibrate can also modestly lower low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in some patients. It is particularly useful for patients with severe hypertriglyceridemia to reduce the risk of pancreatitis, and for those with mixed dyslipidemia who require comprehensive lipid management.
Uses
- Treatment of severe hypertriglyceridemia
- Management of mixed dyslipidemia
- Primary hypercholesterolemia (as an adjunct to statins)
- Reduction of risk for pancreatitis in severe hypertriglyceridemia
Directions For Use
Take one tablet once daily, preferably with food, or as directed by your healthcare provider. Swallow the tablet whole.

Safety Measures
- Alcohol - Limit alcohol intake as it can increase the risk of liver damage and pancreatitis.
- Pregnancy - Not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly needed, as potential risks may outweigh benefits.
- Breastfeeding - Avoid during breastfeeding as it is unknown if Fenofibrate is excreted in human milk.
- Liver - Contraindicated in patients with active liver disease; monitor liver function tests closely.
- Kidney - Contraindicated in severe renal impairment; dose adjustment is necessary for moderate impairment.
