About
Amlong 5 MG contains Amlodipine, a long-acting dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, widely used for the management of essential hypertension and various forms of angina pectoris. Amlodipine exerts its therapeutic effects by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle cells. This leads to a relaxation of the smooth muscles in the walls of peripheral arteries, resulting in vasodilation and a significant reduction in peripheral vascular resistance. Consequently, blood pressure is lowered, and the workload on the heart is decreased.
In patients with angina, this action increases myocardial oxygen supply by dilating coronary arteries and reduces oxygen demand by lowering afterload. Its prolonged duration of action allows for convenient once-daily dosing, providing sustained blood pressure control and effective symptomatic relief for angina, thereby improving patient outcomes and reducing cardiovascular risk.
