About

REVELOL AM 25/5 is a fixed-dose combination medication containing Metoprolol, a beta-1 selective adrenergic blocking agent, and Amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker. This synergistic formulation is primarily indicated for the management of essential hypertension and chronic stable angina pectoris. Metoprolol acts by reducing heart rate, myocardial contractility, and cardiac output, thereby lowering blood pressure and myocardial oxygen demand. Amlodipine complements this action by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to peripheral vasodilation and reduced afterload. This dual mechanism provides comprehensive control over blood pressure, effectively reducing both systolic and diastolic pressures, and alleviates anginal symptoms by improving coronary blood flow and reducing cardiac workload. The combination offers enhanced efficacy compared to monotherapy, often allowing for lower doses of each component, which can minimize dose-dependent side effects. It is particularly beneficial for patients who require more aggressive blood pressure control or who have co-existing angina.

Uses

  • Management of essential hypertension.
  • Treatment of chronic stable angina pectoris.
  • Reduction of cardiovascular risk in hypertensive patients.
  • Adjunctive therapy in certain heart conditions.

  • Breastfeeding - Consult a doctor. Both components may pass into breast milk, potentially affecting the infant.
  • Liver - Use with caution in patients with liver impairment; dose adjustment may be necessary.
  • Kidney - Generally safe in mild to moderate kidney impairment; severe impairment may require dose adjustment.
  • Lung - Use with caution in patients with asthma or severe COPD due to the beta-blocker component.
