About
ARBITEL CT 80 TAB combines Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), with Chlorthalidone, a long-acting thiazide-like diuretic. Telmisartan works by selectively inhibiting the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, leading to vasodilation and reduced aldosterone secretion. Chlorthalidone increases the excretion of sodium and water by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the cortical diluting segment of the nephron, thereby reducing plasma volume. This combination provides a potent antihypertensive effect by reducing both peripheral vascular resistance and plasma volume. It is particularly effective for managing essential hypertension, especially in patients who require more robust blood pressure control or have not achieved target blood pressure with monotherapy. The synergistic action helps to lower blood pressure more effectively and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events.
