About
This medication combines Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), and Metoprolol, a beta-1 selective adrenergic blocker. Telmisartan works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to its receptors, leading to vasodilation, reduced aldosterone secretion, and consequently, lower blood pressure. Metoprolol reduces heart rate and myocardial contractility, thereby decreasing cardiac output and lowering blood pressure. It also reduces the release of renin from the kidneys.
The combination of an ARB and a beta-blocker provides a synergistic effect in controlling hypertension, particularly in patients who may benefit from both mechanisms of action, such as those with concomitant angina or post-myocardial infarction. This dual therapy effectively reduces blood pressure, alleviates cardiac workload, and helps prevent cardiovascular complications, offering a comprehensive approach to managing cardiovascular risk.

Safety Measures
Alcohol - Avoid alcohol as it can enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect and increase the risk of dizziness or drowsiness.
Pregnancy - Contraindicated during the second and third trimesters due to risk of fetal harm from telmisartan.
Breastfeeding - Not recommended during breastfeeding as components may pass into breast milk and affect the infant.
Liver - Use with caution in patients with liver impairment; monitor liver function tests regularly.
Kidney - Use with caution and adjust dose in patients with severe kidney impairment; monitor renal function.
Lung - Use with caution in patients with asthma or severe COPD, as metoprolol can cause bronchospasm, even at selective doses.
