About
ARVAST F 10 is a combination lipid-modifying agent, typically containing Atorvastatin and Fenofibrate. Atorvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, commonly known as a statin, which primarily works by reducing the liver's production of cholesterol. This leads to a significant reduction in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), often referred to as 'bad cholesterol', and also helps to lower triglycerides and slightly increase high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C).
Fenofibrate, a fibric acid derivative, acts by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPAR-alpha). This activation leads to increased lipolysis and elimination of triglyceride-rich particles from plasma, resulting in substantial reductions in triglycerides and moderate increases in HDL-C. The combination of Atorvastatin and Fenofibrate is particularly effective for patients with mixed dyslipidemia, where both high cholesterol and high triglycerides are present, offering a more comprehensive approach to lipid management than either drug alone. This synergistic action helps to reduce the overall risk of cardiovascular disease by targeting multiple lipid abnormalities.
