About

Bdpalbo is an oral cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) 4 and 6 inhibitor, primarily indicated for the treatment of certain types of advanced or metastatic breast cancer. It works by selectively inhibiting CDK4 and CDK6, key enzymes that regulate cell cycle progression. By blocking these kinases, Bdpalbo prevents cancer cells from advancing from the G1 phase to the S phase of the cell cycle, thereby inhibiting tumor cell proliferation. This targeted mechanism of action helps to slow down cancer growth and progression, particularly in hormone receptor-positive (HR+) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (HER2-) breast cancer, often in combination with endocrine therapy.

The medication is absorbed orally and undergoes extensive metabolism, primarily via CYP3A enzymes, with excretion predominantly through feces. Due to its potent antiproliferative effects, careful monitoring of hematologic parameters, particularly neutrophil counts, is crucial throughout treatment to manage potential myelosuppression. Patients should be educated on potential side effects and the importance of adherence to the prescribed regimen to maximize therapeutic benefits and ensure safety.

Uses

  • Treatment of HR+, HER2- advanced or metastatic breast cancer.
  • Used in combination with an aromatase inhibitor as initial endocrine-based therapy.
  • Used in combination with fulvestrant after disease progression on endocrine therapy.
  • Inhibits tumor cell proliferation in specific breast cancer types.

Directions For Use

Take the capsule orally once daily with food for 21 consecutive days, followed by 7 days off, to complete a 28-day cycle.

Safety Measures

  • Alcohol - Alcohol consumption should be limited or avoided during Bdpalbo treatment, as it may exacerbate side effects or interact with the drug's metabolism, potentially increasing toxicity.
  • Pregnancy - Bdpalbo can cause fetal harm. It is contraindicated during pregnancy. Women of childbearing potential must use effective contraception during treatment and for at least 3 weeks after the last dose.
  • Breastfeeding - It is unknown if Bdpalbo is excreted in human milk. Due to the potential for serious adverse reactions in breastfed infants, breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment and for 3 weeks after the last dose.
  • Liver - Patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment may require dose adjustments for Bdpalbo, as it is primarily metabolized by the liver. Close monitoring of liver function is advised.
  • Kidney - Dose adjustments may be necessary for patients with severe renal impairment. Bdpalbo is minimally excreted renally, but caution and monitoring are still recommended.
  • Lung - Interstitial lung disease (ILD) and pneumonitis have been reported with CDK4/6 inhibitors. Patients should be monitored for pulmonary symptoms, and treatment should be interrupted or discontinued if severe symptoms occur.
