About

Biramet 250mg Tablet contains Bicalutamide, an antiandrogen medication primarily used in the treatment of prostate cancer. Bicalutamide is a non-steroidal antiandrogen that works by competitively binding to androgen receptors in target tissues, thereby preventing the binding of natural androgens like testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This action inhibits the growth-promoting effects of androgens on prostate cancer cells, which are often hormone-sensitive.

By blocking androgen receptor activation, Bicalutamide effectively suppresses the androgen-dependent proliferation of prostate cancer cells. It is typically used in combination with luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) analogues or surgical castration to achieve maximal androgen blockade, which is a cornerstone of advanced prostate cancer management. It can also be used as monotherapy in certain situations. Its long half-life allows for once-daily dosing, contributing to patient convenience and adherence.
