About

Caxfila OS (cefixime) is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It exerts its bactericidal action by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Cefixime binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall, which are essential for the synthesis of peptidoglycan, a crucial component of the bacterial cell wall. This binding prevents the cross-linking of peptidoglycan units, leading to a defective and unstable cell wall, ultimately resulting in bacterial lysis and death.

Its broad spectrum of activity and oral bioavailability make it a suitable choice for treating various infections, particularly in outpatient settings. It is commonly prescribed for respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and otitis media, offering a convenient and effective treatment option for both pediatric and adult patients.
