About

This medication combines atorvastatin, an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, with aspirin, an antiplatelet agent. Atorvastatin effectively lowers elevated total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and triglycerides by inhibiting cholesterol synthesis in the liver and increasing LDL receptor expression. Aspirin, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), exerts its antiplatelet effect by irreversibly inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1), thereby preventing the synthesis of thromboxane A2 in platelets. This dual action provides comprehensive cardiovascular protection by managing dyslipidemia and reducing the risk of thrombotic events, making it particularly beneficial for patients at high risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The combination offers a synergistic approach to reduce both lipid levels and the propensity for clot formation.

Uses

  • To reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events.
  • For patients with established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
  • To manage hypercholesterolemia and prevent platelet aggregation.
  • In secondary prevention of myocardial infarction and stroke.
