About

Etoricoxib, marketed as NUCOXIA 90MG TAB, is a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor belonging to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) class. It is indicated for the symptomatic relief of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and for the treatment of acute gouty arthritis and acute pain, including post-operative dental pain. By selectively inhibiting COX-2, etoricoxib reduces the production of prostaglandins, which are mediators of pain and inflammation, while minimizing the gastrointestinal side effects often associated with non-selective NSAIDs that also inhibit COX-1.

This selectivity aims to provide effective pain relief and reduce inflammation with a potentially improved gastrointestinal safety profile compared to traditional NSAIDs. However, like all NSAIDs, it carries cardiovascular risks, especially with long-term use or in patients with pre-existing cardiovascular disease.
