About

Rituximab is a chimeric monoclonal antibody that specifically targets the CD20 protein, which is abundantly expressed on the surface of B lymphocytes. By binding to CD20, rituximab initiates a cascade of immune responses, including antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC), complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC), and direct induction of apoptosis, leading to the selective depletion of B cells. This mechanism makes it highly effective in treating various B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and certain autoimmune diseases where B cells play a pathogenic role, such as rheumatoid arthritis and vasculitis.

Its therapeutic action involves reducing the number of circulating B cells, thereby modulating immune responses and controlling disease progression. The specific dosage and administration frequency depend on the indication and patient's response, typically administered intravenously under close medical supervision due to potential infusion-related reactions and the need for careful monitoring.

Uses

  • Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (NHL)
  • Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL)
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)
  • Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (GPA) and Microscopic Polyangiitis (MPA)

Directions For Use

Administered intravenously by a qualified healthcare professional. Dosage and frequency are determined by the treating physician based on the specific condition and patient's response.

  • Effective in various B-cell malignancies and autoimmune conditions
  • Reduces disease activity and progression
  • Can induce remission in certain lymphomas
  • Improves symptoms and quality of life for patients
  • Offers a targeted therapeutic approach with established efficacy

Side Effects

Safety Measures

  • Alcohol - No specific interaction with alcohol is known, but it's generally advisable to limit alcohol intake, especially if experiencing side effects or underlying conditions.
