About

Olymprix M 500 is a combination medication prescribed for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains Teneligliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, and Metformin, a biguanide. Teneligliptin enhances the body's natural ability to lower blood glucose by increasing the levels of incretin hormones, which promote insulin release and suppress glucagon secretion in a glucose-dependent manner. Metformin primarily acts by reducing glucose production in the liver and improving the sensitivity of muscle cells to insulin, thereby facilitating glucose uptake from the bloodstream. This dual mechanism of action provides comprehensive control over blood sugar levels.

This synergistic formulation is particularly effective for patients whose blood glucose levels are not adequately controlled by diet and exercise alone, or by Metformin monotherapy. By targeting different pathways involved in glucose regulation, Olymprix M 500 helps to achieve better glycemic control, reducing both fasting and post-meal blood sugar spikes. This contributes to a lower risk of long-term diabetes complications and supports overall metabolic health.

Uses

  • Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
  • To improve glycemic control in adults.
  • Used in conjunction with diet and exercise.
  • For patients inadequately controlled on Metformin alone.

Directions For Use

Take this medication orally as directed by your physician, typically with meals to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Swallow the tablet whole with water.

Benefits

  • Effective in lowering blood glucose.
  • Targets both fasting and post-meal sugars.
  • Enhances insulin sensitivity.
  • Lower risk of hypoglycemia compared to sulfonylureas.
  • Supports weight neutrality or modest weight loss.

Safety Measures

  • Alcohol - Avoid excessive alcohol intake as it can significantly increase the risk of lactic acidosis, especially when taking Metformin.
  • Pregnancy - Generally not recommended during pregnancy. Consult your doctor to discuss alternatives, as insulin is often preferred for gestational diabetes.
  • Breastfeeding - Metformin is excreted in breast milk. Discuss with your doctor to assess potential risks to the infant versus maternal benefits.
  • Liver - Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment due to increased risk of Metformin accumulation and lactic acidosis.
  • Kidney - Contraindicated in severe renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73m²). Dose adjustment is necessary for moderate impairment to prevent Metformin accumulation.
  • Lung - No specific contraindications, but conditions causing hypoxia can increase the risk of lactic acidosis.
