About
OMEN CT 40/12.5 is a fixed-dose combination medication containing Olmesartan medoxomil, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), and Chlorthalidone, a thiazide-like diuretic. Olmesartan works by blocking the AT1 receptors, preventing the vasoconstrictive and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Chlorthalidone enhances the excretion of sodium and chloride by inhibiting their reabsorption in the cortical diluting segment of the nephron, thereby reducing blood volume and peripheral resistance.
This synergistic combination provides a more potent antihypertensive effect than either component alone, making it particularly effective for patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy. The dual mechanism addresses different pathways involved in blood pressure regulation, offering comprehensive control and reducing the risk of cardiovascular events. Regular monitoring of electrolytes and renal function is crucial during treatment.

- Breastfeeding - Both Olmesartan and Chlorthalidone may pass into breast milk. It is not recommended during breastfeeding.
- Liver - Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment, as dosage adjustments may be necessary and can exacerbate electrolyte imbalances.
- Kidney - Contraindicated in anuric patients. Use with extreme caution in severe renal impairment; regular monitoring of kidney function and electrolytes is essential.
- Lung - Generally safe for use in patients with lung conditions, as it does not typically cause respiratory side effects.
