Penclave 625 is a potent broad-spectrum antibiotic formulation combining amoxicillin, a semi-synthetic penicillin, with clavulanic acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Amoxicillin exerts its bactericidal action by interfering with the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to osmotic lysis and bacterial death. However, many bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes that inactivate amoxicillin.
