About

Ranibizumab, known as RanizuRel, is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody fragment that specifically binds to and inhibits the biological activity of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A). VEGF-A is a key mediator of angiogenesis, the process of new blood vessel formation, and increased vascular permeability. By neutralizing VEGF-A, ranibizumab prevents the growth of abnormal blood vessels and reduces fluid leakage in the retina. This action is crucial in treating various ocular conditions characterized by neovascularization and macular edema, which can lead to severe vision loss.

RanizuRel is administered via intravitreal injection, directly targeting the affected area of the eye to preserve and improve visual acuity. Its highly specific mechanism minimizes systemic exposure while maximizing local therapeutic effect, making it an effective treatment for conditions such as neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (AMD), macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion (RVO), diabetic macular edema (DME), and myopic choroidal neovascularization (mCNV).

Uses

  • Neovascular (wet) Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
  • Macular Edema secondary to Retinal Vein Occlusion (RVO)
  • Diabetic Macular Edema (DME)
  • Myopic Choroidal Neovascularization (mCNV)

Directions For Use

Administer as an intravitreal injection into the eye by a qualified ophthalmologist. Follow the prescribed dosing schedule.

Benefits

  • Improves visual acuity
  • Reduces retinal fluid and edema
  • Inhibits growth of abnormal blood vessels
  • Slows progression of vision loss
  • Provides targeted ocular therapy
  • Offers long-term vision preservation

Side Effects

  • Conjunctival hemorrhage
  • Eye pain
  • Vitreous floaters
  • Increased intraocular pressure
  • Vitreous detachment
  • Ocular inflammation
  • Cataract
  • Retinal pigment epithelial tear
  • Endophthalmitis (rare but serious)
  • Retinal detachment (rare)
  • Blurred vision
  • Dry eye

Safety Measures

  • Alcohol - No known direct interaction; however, general health practices for eye conditions should be followed. Consult your ophthalmologist.
  • Pregnancy - Use only if potential benefits justify the potential risk to the fetus; consult an ophthalmologist and obstetrician.
  • Breastfeeding - Unknown if excreted in human milk; caution is advised. Discuss with a healthcare provider to weigh potential risks.
  • Liver - No specific dose adjustment required for hepatic impairment as systemic exposure is minimal following intravitreal injection.
  • Kidney - No specific dose adjustment required for renal impairment as systemic exposure is minimal following intravitreal injection.
  • Lung - No specific contraindications related to lung conditions; systemic effects are generally negligible due to local administration.
