About
Pomalidomide is an immunomodulatory drug (IMiD) primarily used in the treatment of multiple myeloma. It is indicated for adult patients with relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma who have received at least two prior therapies, including lenalidomide and bortezomib, and have demonstrated disease progression on or within 60 days of completion of the last therapy. Pomalidomide exerts its anti-myeloma effects through multiple mechanisms, including direct cytotoxicity to tumor cells, inhibition of angiogenesis, and enhancement of host anti-tumor immunity. It also modulates the immune system by enhancing T-cell and natural killer (NK) cell activity while inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Due to its teratogenic potential, strict risk management programs are in place for its prescription and dispensing.
