About

PROSTAGARD 8 MG TAB contains Tamsulosin, an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist. It works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, which helps to improve urine flow and reduce the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). BPH is a common condition in older men where the prostate gland enlarges, leading to urinary difficulties. Tamsulosin specifically targets the alpha-1A receptors, which are predominantly found in the prostate, thereby minimizing effects on blood pressure compared to non-selective alpha-blockers. This selective action helps to alleviate obstructive symptoms such as weak stream, hesitancy, and incomplete bladder emptying, as well as irritative symptoms like frequency and urgency, without significantly lowering systemic blood pressure in most patients.

Uses

  • Treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
  • Relief of urinary symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate
  • Improvement of urine flow in men with BPH
