About
TELCADIN 80 TAB contains Telmisartan 80mg, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). This higher dose of Telmisartan is primarily indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension, particularly in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with lower doses or other antihypertensive agents. It is also used for cardiovascular risk reduction in patients aged 55 years or older who are at high risk of cardiovascular events. Telmisartan works by selectively blocking the AT1 receptors, which are responsible for the vasoconstrictive and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II. This action leads to vasodilation, reduced aldosterone secretion, and decreased sodium and water reabsorption, resulting in a significant reduction in blood pressure.
The 80mg dose provides potent and sustained blood pressure control, crucial for preventing long-term complications of hypertension such as stroke, myocardial infarction, and kidney disease. Its long duration of action allows for convenient once-daily dosing, ensuring consistent blood pressure management throughout the 24-hour period. Telmisartan is generally well-tolerated and offers a robust option for managing severe or resistant hypertension and for comprehensive cardiovascular protection.
