About

Telmikind H Tab is a widely used combination antihypertensive medication comprising Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), and Hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic. Telmisartan exerts its therapeutic effect by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to its AT1 receptors, which are responsible for vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion. This blockade results in systemic vasodilation, reduced fluid retention, and a subsequent decrease in blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide augments this action by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubules of the kidneys, leading to increased excretion of sodium, chloride, and water. This diuretic effect reduces plasma volume and peripheral vascular resistance, contributing significantly to the overall antihypertensive outcome. This dual mechanism of action provides effective and sustained blood pressure control, making it particularly beneficial for patients whose hypertension is not adequately managed by monotherapy with either component alone, and helps to mitigate potential side effects like potassium loss often seen with diuretics.

Uses

  • Treatment of essential hypertension.
  • When monotherapy with Telmisartan or Hydrochlorothiazide is insufficient.
  • To reduce the risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
  • Long-term management of high blood pressure.
