Telvas AM 80/5 mg is a fixed-dose combination medication containing Telmisartan and Amlodipine, indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension. Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), works by selectively blocking the AT1 receptor, preventing the vasoconstrictive and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II, thereby leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (CCB), exerts its antihypertensive effect by relaxing vascular smooth muscle, which reduces peripheral vascular resistance. The combination of these two agents provides complementary mechanisms of action, resulting in a more effective and sustained reduction in blood pressure, particularly beneficial for patients who require more aggressive blood pressure control or who have not achieved target blood pressure with monotherapy.
