About

Vylda M 1000 is a fixed-dose combination medication containing Vildagliptin and Metformin hydrochloride 1000mg, indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. This formulation combines the benefits of a DPP-4 inhibitor and a biguanide to provide enhanced glycemic control. Vildagliptin works by increasing the levels of active incretin hormones, thereby boosting glucose-dependent insulin secretion and suppressing glucagon. Metformin primarily acts by reducing glucose production in the liver, decreasing glucose absorption from the gut, and improving the body's sensitivity to insulin.

This dual mechanism effectively targets multiple pathways involved in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes, leading to significant reductions in both fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels, as well as overall HbA1c. It is suitable for patients who require more intensive glycemic management than can be achieved with Metformin alone.

Uses

  • Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
  • Improving blood sugar control.
  • When Metformin monotherapy is inadequate.
  • As an adjunct to diet and exercise.

Directions For Use

Take orally, usually twice daily with meals, as directed by your physician.

Benefits

  • Potent dual action for glycemic control.
  • Significant reduction in HbA1c.
  • Addresses both insulin resistance and secretion.
  • Generally well-tolerated.
  • May contribute to modest weight loss.
  • Convenient fixed-dose regimen.

Side Effects

  • Gastrointestinal upset (nausea, diarrhea, vomiting).
  • Abdominal discomfort.
  • Headache.
  • Dizziness.
  • Metallic taste in mouth.
  • Lactic acidosis (rare, serious).
  • Vitamin B12 deficiency (with long-term use).
  • Upper respiratory tract infections.
  • Nasopharyngitis.
  • Joint pain.
  • Skin reactions.
  • Fatigue.

Safety Measures

  • Alcohol - Avoid excessive alcohol intake due to increased risk of lactic acidosis and potential for hypoglycemia, especially with Metformin.
  • Pregnancy - Not recommended during pregnancy. Insulin is the preferred treatment for diabetes in pregnant women.
  • Breastfeeding - Avoid during breastfeeding as both active ingredients may be excreted in breast milk. Consult your doctor.
  • Liver - Contraindicated in severe liver impairment due to the Metformin component, which increases the risk of lactic acidosis.
  • Kidney - Contraindicated in severe renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73m²). Dose adjustment is necessary for moderate impairment.
  • Lung - Use with caution in conditions associated with hypoxia (e.g., severe respiratory failure) as it can predispose to lactic acidosis.
