About
GLZ TOTAL TAB contains Gliclazide, an oral hypoglycemic agent belonging to the sulfonylurea class, primarily used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Its main mechanism of action involves stimulating the release of insulin from the beta cells of the pancreas. This is achieved by binding to specific receptors on the beta-cell membrane, leading to the closure of ATP-sensitive potassium channels. This closure causes depolarization of the beta-cell membrane, triggering an influx of calcium ions, which in turn stimulates the exocytosis of insulin granules.
Gliclazide helps to lower both fasting and post-prandial blood glucose levels and improve overall glycemic control when diet and exercise alone are insufficient. It is often prescribed as a foundational therapy, either as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents, to help patients achieve and maintain their target HbA1c levels.
