About

Vylda (Vildagliptin) is an oral anti-diabetic medication belonging to the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor class, used for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It works by inhibiting the enzyme DPP-4, which is responsible for the inactivation of incretin hormones, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). By preserving active incretin levels, Vildagliptin enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and suppresses glucagon secretion from pancreatic alpha cells.

This dual action helps to lower both fasting and post-meal blood glucose concentrations without causing significant weight gain or a high risk of hypoglycemia when used as monotherapy. It is typically prescribed when diet and exercise alone are insufficient, and can be used alone or in combination with other anti-diabetic agents.
