This medication is a fixed-dose combination therapy for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, comprising vildagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, and metformin, a biguanide. Vildagliptin works by inhibiting the breakdown of incretin hormones, GLP-1 and GIP, which are released in response to food. This leads to increased glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and decreased glucagon secretion from alpha cells, thereby reducing blood glucose levels.
