About
ZITEN 20 TAB contains Teneligliptin 20mg, an oral antidiabetic medication belonging to the class of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors. It is used for the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Teneligliptin works by selectively inhibiting the DPP-4 enzyme, which is responsible for the degradation of incretin hormones, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). By preserving these incretins, Teneligliptin enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and suppresses glucagon secretion from alpha cells, particularly after meals.
This mechanism of action leads to improved control of both fasting and post-meal blood glucose levels without significantly increasing the risk of hypoglycemia, as its effects are glucose-dependent. ZITEN 20 TAB is often prescribed when diet and exercise alone are insufficient, or as an add-on therapy to other antidiabetic agents like Metformin. Its ability to improve beta-cell function and reduce HbA1c makes it a valuable option in preventing the long-term complications associated with uncontrolled Type 2 diabetes, such as cardiovascular disease, kidney damage, and nerve problems.
