About

Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) primarily used in the management of hypertension. It works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor found in many tissues, including vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal glands. This blockade prevents the vasoconstrictive and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II, leading to a reduction in blood pressure. Beyond its antihypertensive effects, losartan is also indicated for reducing the risk of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy, and for the treatment of diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetic patients with a history of hypertension.
