About

DIAPRIDE M1 HV TAB combines Glimepiride, a third-generation sulfonylurea, and Metformin, a biguanide, for the effective management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Glimepiride primarily acts by stimulating insulin release from the pancreatic beta cells, enhancing the body's natural insulin response to glucose. It achieves this by binding to a specific receptor on the beta-cell membrane, leading to the closure of ATP-sensitive potassium channels and subsequent insulin secretion. Metformin works through multiple mechanisms, including reducing hepatic glucose production, decreasing intestinal glucose absorption, and improving peripheral insulin sensitivity. This combination therapy targets both insulin deficiency and insulin resistance, providing robust glycemic control. It is particularly useful for patients who have not achieved adequate blood sugar control with diet, exercise, or monotherapy with either agent.

Uses

  • Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
  • To improve glycemic control in adults.
  • When diet and exercise are insufficient.
  • As an adjunct to other antidiabetic therapies.

Directions For Use

Take orally with meals, usually once or twice daily, as directed by your physician. Swallow the tablet whole with water.

Benefits

  • Significant reduction in blood glucose.
  • Addresses both insulin secretion and sensitivity.
  • Effective HbA1c lowering.
  • Potential for cardiovascular benefits (Metformin).
  • Improved glucose utilization.
  • Well-established treatment combination.

Side Effects

  • Hypoglycemia
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Metallic taste
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Weight gain (Glimepiride)
  • Lactic acidosis (rare, with Metformin)
  • Vitamin B12 deficiency (long-term Metformin)
  • Skin reactions
  • Fatigue

Safety Measures

  • Alcohol - Avoid excessive alcohol intake due to increased risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis (Metformin).
  • Pregnancy - Not recommended during pregnancy. Insulin is generally preferred for glycemic control in pregnant women.
  • Breastfeeding - Avoid during breastfeeding as components may pass into breast milk. Consult a doctor.
  • Liver - Contraindicated in severe hepatic impairment due to increased risk of lactic acidosis and hypoglycemia.
  • Kidney - Contraindicated in severe renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73m²) due to risk of lactic acidosis. Dose adjustment needed for moderate impairment.
  • Lung - Use with caution in severe acute or chronic lung disease due to potential for hypoxia, increasing lactic acidosis risk.
