About
Elromo 50mg Tablet is a thrombopoietin (TPO) receptor agonist containing Eltrombopag as its active ingredient. It is used to treat low platelet counts in individuals with primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) or hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. ITP is an autoimmune condition in which the immune system destroys platelets—cells essential for blood clotting and maintaining blood vessel integrity. A drop in platelet levels can lead to severe bruising and bleeding. Elromo 50mg is also prescribed to adults with severe aplastic anaemia, a condition where the bone marrow fails to produce adequate new blood cells.
This medication should not be used in individuals with known allergies to Eltrombopag or its components, as it can cause reactions ranging from mild skin rashes and itching to more severe symptoms like swelling, dizziness, and difficulty breathing. Elromo 50mg is contraindicated in patients with active or severe liver disease, as it may worsen liver function due to its potential for hepatotoxicity, often indicated by elevated liver enzymes and bilirubin.
Before starting the treatment, your doctor may advise eye examinations to check for cataracts, particularly if you don’t undergo regular eye tests. Monitoring for bleeding in or around the retina (the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye) may also be necessary.
If you stop taking this medication, your platelet count could drop again within a few days. Therefore, your doctor will monitor your platelet levels closely and take preventive measures to avoid complications. Extremely high platelet counts may raise the risk of blood clots, although clots can also occur with normal or low counts. The dosage will be adjusted to maintain a safe platelet range.
Avoid taking Elromo 50mg alongside dairy products or calcium-rich drinks, as calcium can interfere with the absorption of the drug. Use effective contraception during treatment, and inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or suspect you might be pregnant.
Elromo 50mg is not recommended for children under one year of age with ITP and is also not suitable for individuals under 18 being treated for low platelet counts due to HCV or severe aplastic anaemia. Always inform your doctor about any other medications or supplements you are currently taking, including over-the-counter drugs and vitamins.
