About

Eltromag 25mg Tablet is an anticoagulant medication classified as a thrombopoietin (TPO) receptor agonist. It contains the active ingredient Eltrombopag and is primarily prescribed to treat low platelet counts in conditions such as primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) or hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. ITP is an autoimmune disorder where the immune system mistakenly destroys platelets—cells essential for blood clotting and maintaining the integrity of blood vessels. A reduction in platelet levels can lead to excessive bruising and severe bleeding.

Additionally, Eltromag 25mg is used in adults to manage severe aplastic anaemia, a serious condition in which the bone marrow fails to produce enough new blood cells.

This medication is not recommended for individuals with known hypersensitivity to Eltrombopag or any of its components. Allergic reactions may range from mild to severe and can include symptoms like rashes, itching, swelling, dizziness, or breathing difficulties. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe liver impairment or active liver disease, as the drug may cause liver toxicity, indicated by elevated liver enzymes and bilirubin levels. In such cases, liver function may worsen, so medical supervision and caution are essential.

Your doctor may recommend eye examinations, including regular testing for cataracts and monitoring for bleeding around the retina (the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye), especially if you do not already undergo routine eye checks.

If treatment is discontinued, platelet counts may drop again within a few days. Therefore, your doctor will monitor your platelet levels closely and adjust the dosage to prevent counts from becoming too high or too low. While high platelet levels can increase the risk of blood clots, clots can still form even when platelet counts are within or below the normal range.

Avoid taking this tablet with dairy products or calcium-rich drinks, as calcium can interfere with the absorption of Eltrombopag. It is essential to use effective contraception during treatment, and inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant.

Eltromag 25mg is not suitable for children under 1 year of age with ITP, nor is it recommended for individuals under 18 with low platelet counts resulting from hepatitis C or severe aplastic anaemia.

Always inform your doctor about all the medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements, as they may interact with this medicine.
