About

Eltrog 25mg Tablet is an anticoagulant medication classified as a thrombopoietin (TPO) receptor agonist, containing the active ingredient Eltrombopag. It is used to treat low platelet counts resulting from primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) or hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. ITP is an autoimmune condition in which the body’s immune system destroys platelets—blood cells essential for clotting and maintaining the integrity of blood vessel walls. Low platelet levels can lead to excessive bleeding and easy bruising. This tablet is also prescribed for adults with severe aplastic anaemia, a serious disorder where the bone marrow fails to produce enough new blood cells.

Eltrog 25mg Tablet should not be taken by individuals who are allergic to Eltrombopag or any of its components. Allergic reactions can vary in severity and may present as rashes, itching, swelling, dizziness, or difficulty breathing. The medication is contraindicated in patients with severe liver impairment or active liver disease, as it may cause liver toxicity—evidenced by elevated liver enzyme and bilirubin levels—which can worsen existing liver conditions. Regular eye exams, including screening for cataracts and potential bleeding around the retina (the light-sensitive part at the back of the eye), may be recommended during treatment.

Discontinuing the medication may lead to a rapid drop in platelet count within a few days. Your doctor will monitor your platelet levels and advise on necessary precautions. While high platelet counts can increase the risk of blood clots, clots can also develop even with normal or low platelet levels. To prevent this, your doctor will carefully adjust the dosage to maintain a safe platelet range.

Avoid consuming dairy products or calcium-rich drinks around the time of taking this medicine, as calcium can interfere with its absorption. Use effective contraception during treatment, and inform your doctor if you become pregnant. Eltrog 25mg Tablet is not recommended for children under one year of age with ITP or for individuals under 18 with low platelet counts due to HCV or severe aplastic anaemia. Inform your doctor about any other medications, supplements, or vitamins you are currently using, including those obtained without a prescription.
