About

JANUMET 50/500 MG TAB is a combination oral antidiabetic medication containing sitagliptin and metformin. Sitagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases incretin hormone levels, leading to glucose-dependent enhancement of insulin release and suppression of glucagon. Metformin, a biguanide, reduces hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal glucose absorption, and improves insulin sensitivity. This dual mechanism provides comprehensive and complementary actions to improve glycemic control.

This medication is indicated for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control. The combination of sitagliptin and metformin targets multiple pathways involved in glucose dysregulation, offering a more robust reduction in HbA1c compared to either agent alone. It is particularly useful for patients who have not achieved adequate glycemic control with monotherapy.

Uses

  • Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
  • As an adjunct to diet and exercise.
  • When monotherapy with metformin or sitagliptin is insufficient.
  • To improve glycemic control in adults.
