About

JANUVIA 50MG contains sitagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. This medication works by enhancing the body's natural ability to lower high blood glucose levels. It does this by increasing the levels of active incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP), which are released after a meal. These hormones stimulate insulin release from the pancreas and decrease glucagon secretion from the liver, both in a glucose-dependent manner, thereby improving glycemic control.

Sitagliptin is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It offers a targeted approach to managing blood sugar without directly stimulating insulin secretion in a non-glucose-dependent manner, which contributes to its low risk of hypoglycemia when used as monotherapy. Its mechanism helps to normalize both fasting and post-meal glucose levels.
