About

Leuprolide acetate is a synthetic gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist indicated for the palliative treatment of advanced prostate cancer, endometriosis, central precocious puberty, and uterine fibroids. It works by initially stimulating and then desensitizing the GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland, leading to a profound and sustained suppression of gonadotropin release (LH and FSH). This suppression, in turn, reduces the production of sex hormones (testosterone in males, estrogen in females) to castrate levels.

The 3-month depot formulation provides continuous therapeutic levels, offering convenience and improved patient adherence for long-term management of hormone-dependent conditions. This sustained release helps maintain consistent hormone suppression, which is critical for the efficacy of treatment in these chronic conditions, reducing the frequency of injections for patients.
