About

Myfortic 360mg Tablet contains Mycophenolic Acid (MPA) in an enteric-coated formulation, which is the active metabolite of mycophenolate mofetil. It is primarily used to prevent organ rejection in adult patients receiving kidney transplants. The enteric coating is designed to reduce gastrointestinal side effects by delaying the release of MPA until it reaches the small intestine, thereby minimizing direct irritation to the stomach. Like mycophenolate mofetil, MPA works by selectively inhibiting inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase, an enzyme critical for the proliferation of B and T lymphocytes, thus suppressing the immune system's response to the transplanted organ.

Myfortic is typically used in combination with other immunosuppressive agents, such as cyclosporine and corticosteroids. It offers an alternative formulation for patients who experience significant gastrointestinal intolerance with mycophenolate mofetil. Lifelong adherence to the prescribed regimen and close monitoring for infections, gastrointestinal issues, and potential malignancies are essential for successful transplant outcomes.

Uses

  • Prevention of organ rejection in kidney transplant patients.
  • Management of certain autoimmune diseases (off-label).
  • Alternative to mycophenolate mofetil for GI intolerance.
  • Used in combination with other immunosuppressants.
