About
Olmesartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) specifically indicated for the management of essential hypertension, a common and serious condition. Its mechanism of action involves selectively blocking the AT1 receptor, which is responsible for the vasoconstrictive and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II. By preventing angiotensin II from binding to these receptors, Olmesartan promotes vasodilation, reduces sodium and water retention, and consequently lowers blood pressure. This sustained reduction in blood pressure helps to alleviate the strain on the cardiovascular system, thereby reducing the risk of developing severe complications such as heart attack, stroke, and kidney damage. It is an effective agent for long-term blood pressure control.
