About

Sitaday M 500 is a sophisticated combination medication specifically formulated for the comprehensive management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It integrates the therapeutic actions of Sitagliptin, a potent dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, and Metformin, a well-established biguanide. Sitagliptin exerts its effect by selectively inhibiting the DPP-4 enzyme, which is responsible for the degradation of incretin hormones, GLP-1 and GIP. By preserving these hormones, Sitagliptin enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and suppresses glucagon release from alpha cells, thereby improving postprandial and fasting glucose levels. Metformin, on the other hand, primarily acts by reducing hepatic glucose production, decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose, and significantly improving peripheral insulin sensitivity by facilitating glucose uptake and utilization in muscle and adipose tissues. This synergistic mechanism addresses multiple pathophysiological defects in type 2 diabetes, leading to robust and sustained glycemic control. It is typically indicated when diet and exercise alone, or monotherapy with either component, are insufficient to achieve optimal blood glucose targets, offering a convenient and effective treatment option.

Uses

  • Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
  • Improvement of glycemic control in adults.
  • Used as an adjunct to diet and exercise.
  • When monotherapy is inadequate.

Safety Measures

  • Alcohol - Avoid excessive alcohol consumption as it can increase the risk of lactic acidosis, a rare but serious side effect, especially when taking Metformin.
  • Pregnancy - Consult your doctor. This medication is generally not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly necessary, as its safety has not been fully established.
  • Breastfeeding - Consult your doctor. Components of this medication may pass into breast milk, and its use during breastfeeding should be carefully considered.
  • Liver - Use with caution in patients with liver impairment. Metformin is contraindicated in severe hepatic dysfunction due to increased risk of lactic acidosis.
  • Kidney - Use with caution and dose adjustment in patients with kidney impairment. Metformin is contraindicated in severe renal impairment due to accumulation and increased risk of lactic acidosis.
  • Lung - Use with caution in patients with severe lung conditions, as these may predispose to lactic acidosis.
