SITARA 100MG TAB contains Sitagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, used in the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Sitagliptin works by enhancing the body's natural ability to control blood glucose levels. It does this by increasing the active levels of incretin hormones, such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). These hormones are released by the intestine throughout the day and their levels increase in response to a meal. Incretins stimulate the pancreas to release more insulin when blood glucose levels are high and decrease the amount of glucagon produced by the pancreas. Glucagon is a hormone that causes the liver to produce more sugar.
