About
SITARA 100MG TAB contains Sitagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, used in the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Sitagliptin works by enhancing the body's natural ability to control blood glucose levels. It does this by increasing the active levels of incretin hormones, such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). These hormones are released by the intestine throughout the day and their levels increase in response to a meal. Incretins stimulate the pancreas to release more insulin when blood glucose levels are high and decrease the amount of glucagon produced by the pancreas. Glucagon is a hormone that causes the liver to produce more sugar. By modulating these processes, Sitagliptin helps to lower blood sugar levels effectively, particularly after meals, without significantly increasing the risk of hypoglycemia when used as monotherapy. It is a well-tolerated option for improving glycemic control.
