About
TETAN 40MG TAB contains Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). Telmisartan works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in various tissues, including vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal gland. Angiotensin II is a potent vasoconstrictor and stimulates aldosterone secretion, both of which contribute to increased blood pressure. By blocking its effects, Telmisartan causes vasodilation, reduces aldosterone-mediated sodium and water retention, and consequently lowers blood pressure. It is widely used for the treatment of essential hypertension and for cardiovascular risk reduction in patients unable to tolerate ACE inhibitors.
