About

TOPOTEC 2.5MG INJ VIAL contains Topotecan, a semisynthetic derivative of camptothecin and a highly effective antineoplastic agent. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of topoisomerase I, an enzyme critical for relieving torsional strain in DNA during replication, transcription, and repair. Topotecan specifically binds to the topoisomerase I-DNA complex, preventing the re-ligation of DNA single-strand breaks. This interference leads to an accumulation of DNA damage, particularly during the S-phase of the cell cycle, as the replication fork collides with the stabilized cleavable complex. The resulting extensive DNA damage ultimately triggers apoptosis in rapidly proliferating cancer cells. Administered intravenously, topotecan is a valuable therapeutic option for several advanced and refractory solid tumors, including ovarian cancer, small cell lung cancer, and cervical cancer, often providing crucial benefits in patients who have failed other treatments.

Uses

  • Treatment of ovarian cancer (metastatic).
  • Management of small cell lung cancer (relapsed).
  • Therapy for cervical cancer (recurrent or metastatic).
