About

Vaptolva is a selective vasopressin V2-receptor antagonist primarily used in the management of hyponatremia. It works by blocking the action of vasopressin (antidiuretic hormone) in the kidneys, leading to increased free water excretion without significant loss of electrolytes like sodium and potassium. This mechanism helps to raise serum sodium concentrations in patients with clinically significant euvolemic and hypervolemic hyponatremia, including those associated with heart failure, cirrhosis, and Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone (SIADH). Careful monitoring of serum sodium levels is crucial during treatment initiation and dose adjustments to prevent rapid correction of hyponatremia, which can lead to serious neurological complications.

Uses

  • Treatment of euvolemic hyponatremia.
  • Management of hypervolemic hyponatremia.
  • Associated with heart failure.
  • Associated with Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone (SIADH).

Administer orally once daily, typically starting with a low dose. Dosage adjustments should be made based on serum sodium levels and clinical response.
