About
ZAYO 50 mg tablets likely contain Losartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). Losartan works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor found in various tissues, including vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal glands. Angiotensin II is a potent vasoconstrictor and stimulates aldosterone secretion, both of which contribute to elevated blood pressure. By blocking its effects, Losartan causes vasodilation, reduces aldosterone release, and consequently lowers blood pressure. It is primarily used to treat hypertension and can also be beneficial in protecting the kidneys in patients with type 2 diabetes and nephropathy, as well as reducing the risk of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy.
