About
AZMARDA 50 is a combination medication containing Sacubitril and Valsartan, an angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor (ARNI). It works by simultaneously enhancing the protective natriuretic peptide system (via sacubitril) and blocking the harmful effects of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) (via valsartan). This dual mechanism leads to vasodilation, natriuresis, and reduction in cardiac remodeling, significantly improving outcomes in patients with chronic heart failure.
This medication is primarily indicated for the treatment of chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) in adult patients. It has demonstrated superior efficacy compared to ACE inhibitors or ARBs alone in reducing the risk of cardiovascular death and heart failure hospitalizations. Careful initiation and monitoring are required, especially regarding blood pressure, renal function, and potassium levels.
